Charlie Dick Opitz Obituary
Charlie Dick Opitz
Aug. 15, 1936 – March 11, 2025
Charlie Dick Opitz, a lifelong Caddo County farmer and devoted member of Binger Baptist Church, passed away on March 11, 2025. He was 88.
Charlie was born at home on the family farm on Aug. 15, 1936—the hottest day ever recorded in Oklahoma—setting the tone for a life of resilience and dedication. He graduated from Binger High School in 1954 and went on to earn a degree in Animal Science from Oklahoma State University in 1959.
While in Binger, Charlie met Mary Lou Clark at church, where her father was first a visiting preacher and later became the full-time pastor of Binger Baptist Church. They married on June 15, 1956, and together built a life centered on faith, family, and farming. Charlie remained a steadfast member of the church, serving for decades in various capacities.
He farmed alongside his father before expanding the family’s peanut, cattle, and wheat operation. Their dedication to agriculture earned them the title of 1980 Caddo County Farm Family of the Year, followed by a second-place finish at the state level.
Charlie is survived by his loving wife, Mary Opitz, of the home; sons Charles Opitz and wife Regina, Mike Opitz and wife Daphne; daughter Connie Cart and husband Brad; sister Mary Beth Opitz-Ming and husband Don of Columbia, Mo.; grandchildren Cory Cart, Kensy Smith, Kylie Toho, Seth Opitz, and Ross Opitz; and great-grandchildren Layne Smith, Julian Mendoza, Remy Mendoza, Boone Smith, Charley Toho, Stryker Opitz, and Strecker Opitz. He also leaves behind nieces Wendy Offerle of Gainesville, Fla., and Adell Ayres of St. Louis, Mo.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Curtis and Rachel (Pittman) Opitz, and his in-laws, Rev. J. Paul and Edna (Butler) Clark.
Charlie's life was one of deep-rooted faith, dedication to his family, and a commitment to the conservation of the land he loved. His legacy will endure in the fields he cultivated and the family he cherished.
Services will be held at a future date where Charlie will be laid to rest on a plot that was once part of the family’s original farm.
Services are under the direction of Turner Funeral Home, Binger, OK.
