Bobbie Hutcherson Obituary

Bobbie Jean Hutcherson was born October 18, 1928 in Hector, Arkansas to Arthur and Maud Owens.

Most of her young life she lived on a farm in Pulaski County near Little Rock, Arkansas. Her family

moved to Perry, Arkansas when she was in the 6th grade. While attending Robinson High School Bobbie

played catcher, left field and was the leadoff hitter for her softball team. She also played the guard

position for her basketball team. They played half court with one dribble. Bobbie’s Senior year she was

chosen for the All Tournament team at their State Tournament. After graduation she attended Arkansas

Tech on a scholarship where she obtained her teaching accreditation.

Bobbie met James Hutcherson in 1947 at Arkansas Tech when Jimmy spotted the girl in the red dress.

He asked his friend who that girl was, and his friend replied, “that’s my sister”! They were married

March 26, 1948. While Jimmy completed his military career, Bobbie spent her time teaching and helping

her father on the farm.

After Jimmy returned from Japan, they were contacted by a family friend about purchasing the C&H gas

and grocery store in Sickles, OK. In 1955 they moved with their 4-year-old son, Randy to begin their lives

in Oklahoma. They changed the store name to “Hutcherson & Sons”. The following year they were

blessed with twin boys, Jerry and Terry. They operated the store for 37 years while supporting the

Sickles community in many ways.

Bobbie enjoyed crocheting, gardening, making hair bows for her granddaughters, playing board games,

watching the Yankee’s, and decorating for Christmas.

At their 60th wedding anniversary Bobbie was asked about the secret for the longevity of marriage. She

replied, “It’s not easy”! Their advice also included: Don’t go to bed mad, talk it out, then sleep. Don’t get

in a rut. Keep romance alive. Do little things to show each other appreciation. Also, remember marriage

is not a matter of counting the years but making the years count. They were married for 69 years.

Bobbie is preceded in death by her husband Jimmy, one sister Gladys George, one brother William

Owens, and her parents.

Survivors include: her son’s, Randy of Sickles, OK, Jerry and wife Semona of Mustang, OK, and Terry and

DeeDee of Houston, TX. Grandchildren: Kristin and Roy Wyckoff of Yukon, OK, Kaitlyn and Lance Scales

of Eakly, OK, Denae and Chris Allen of Yukon, OK, Justin Hutcherson of Yukon, OK, Jami Marcum of
