Betty O'Briant Obituary

Betty Jo O'Briant was born on November 29, 1932 in Union City, OK to Luther and Zedna (Heflin) Harris.  She passed away on Monday, December 11, 2023, at the Maple Lawn Manor Nursing Home in Hydro, OK at the age of 91. Betty grew up near Hazel Dell and attended the rural school there.  She attended high school in Minco.  It was there that she met Albert O'Briant, the love of her life.  They were married in Lovington, NM, on January 20, 1951.  When they returned to Caddo County, they made their home on Albert’s dad’s farm which was 7 miles West and 1 mile South of Binger.  It was on this land that they raised their 5 children: Phillip, Pam, Patsy, Paul, and Patrick.  While Albert farmed Betty grew a huge garden each year and milked and butchered chickens.  She tended to her orchard and always canned and “put up” her harvests.  Once the children had graduated from high school Betty went back to school to obtain her nursing certification.  She worked in many nursing homes over the years and finally retired from that career at age 81.   Betty was always her patients’ best advocate.  A few local doctors referred to her as “Dr. Betty” because she was so insistent that her patients get the very best treatment and care.  In 2005, Betty & Albert moved to Hinton after they both retired.  The couple celebrated 72 loving years together before Betty's passing.  Betty was a member of the Red Hat Ladies in Hinton and a member of The Ladies’ Auxiliary at the Oakdale Missionary Baptist Church for many years and most recently at the Hinton Missionary Baptist Church where she and Albert were members.  Betty and Albert have been long time supporters of KDIA 1640 AM Radio and of Cedar Hills Camp in Binger, OK. Betty was a fabulous cook and was still preparing holiday meals for her family at age 89.  She was famous for homemade bread and German Chocolate cake she prepared from scratch.  Betty was a wonderful seamstress, talented poet, songwriter, artist, and musician.
