Allen D. West was born August 29, 1931 to Orvis and Alta (Hunt) West. He passed away Sunday, December 20, 2020 at his home in Hinton, OK at the age of 89. Allen grew up in Hinton and attended Hinton Schools. Allen married Arline Marie Lewis on July 15, 1951 at the parsonage in the Bethel community. Soon after getting married he enlisted in the US Army and served in Korea during the Korean War. The couple moved back to Hinton for a time before relocating to California. Allen worked for Pacific Bell for nearly 20 years before transferring back to Oklahoma with Southwestern Bell. He ranched part time until his retirement from Southwestern Bell and then took up ranching full time. He owned and operated a custom swathing and baling business for years. He and Arline also owned and operated Ryker Feed and Seed Company for the last 30 years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the American Legion in Hinton and a lifetime member of the VFW in El Reno, OK. Allen was a very hard working man and loved visiting with friends and even with strangers. He was helpful and would find a way to fix nearly anything that wasn’t working properly or was broken. Allen appreciated a good firm handshake.
Allen is survived by his wife Arline of the home in Hinton, OK, 2 children, Bryan West and Brenda Murphy both of Hinton, OK, grandchildren, Cody Thornton of Edmond, OK and his children, Taver and Tinzlee. Alecia Shelton and her husband Josh and their children, Kyson and Kase of Elk City, OK, and siblings, Ronnie Blackwell and wife Wanda of Hot Springs, AR and Cheryl Houston and husband Clyde of Las Vegas, NV as well as many other relatives and a host of friends.
Allen was preceded in death by his parents, Orvis and Alta West, step mother, Jesse Mae Rempel and sister Marilyn Brown.
Allen’s family requests that donations be made in his memory to First United Methodist Church, 222 W Market, Hinton, OK 73047 or to Traditions Healthcare and Hospice, 1623 Cypress Dr. Weatherford, OK 73096.
Viewing will be held at Turner Funeral Home, Wednesday from 9-9 PM, Thursday from 9-1 PM, Saturday from 9-9 PM, Sunday from 1-9 PM, Hinton, OK
