Albert D. O'Briant Obituary

Albert D. O’Briant was born March 19, 1931, to Albert Ray and Dessie Ann (Shepherd) O’Briant in rural Binger, OK. He passed away on September 28, 2024 in Hydro, OK at the age of 93.  Albert attended school at Banner, Eakly, Willow Creek, and Minco.  He played basketball, football and baseball in school and was very athletic.  He met the love of his life Betty Jo Harris at Minco, OK.  They were married in Lovington, NM, on January 20, 1951.  When they returned to Caddo County, they made their home on Albert’s dad’s farm which was 7 miles West and 1 mile South of Binger.  It was on this land that they raised their 5 children: Phillip, Pam, Patsy, Paul, and Patrick.  Albert farmed and ranched for many years.  He was a humble honest man.  He was his family’s protector.  He exemplified decency, honor, hard work, and to pull your share of the load.  He never sought praise or recognition.  He was a man of few words so when he spoke you listened.  He grew peanuts, cotton, hay and raised cattle.   He had a small lumber mill and cut the wood for their barn and an addition on the Cherry Dale Store on Highway 152. He could take anything apart, repair it and put it back together.  He managed to make whatever tool or machinery he needed on the farm from what pieces he already had.  He was saved as a young adult at Oakdale Missionary Baptist Church.  He was baptized in a farm pond just off of Highway 152.  Albert served as a Sunday School Superintendent and Deacon at Oakdale Missionary Baptist Church where he and Betty were members for many years. After retirement in 2005, they moved to Hinton, where he served as a deacon in the Hinton Missionary Baptist Church.  Albert and Betty were longtime supporters of KDIA 1640 AM radio and also Cedar Hills Church Camp in Binger, OK where he served on the original board. The couple celebrated 72 loving years together before Betty's passing in December of 2023.

Survivors include, four children, Pam Weaver & husband Carlie of Hinton, OK, Patsy Pothorst & husband Randy of McAlester, OK, Paul O'Briant & wife Deidre of Sayre, OK, Patrick O'Briant & wife Laura of Dothan, AL, 10 grandchildren; Crystal Long and husband Kareem, Amy Doan and husband Eddie, Carla Jarboe and husband Chad, Darrell Pothorst, Valerie Jiles, Rhett O’Briant and wife Megan Gayle, Megan Lea Fillmore and husband Jeremy, Zachary O’Briant and wife Mandy, Isaac O’Briant, and Landon O’Briant, 22 great grandchildren, and 5 great great grandchildren as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
