Robert Ernest Leck

Robert Ernest Leck was born July 14, 1930 in rural Geary, OK to Dietrich and Anna (Glockner) Leck.  He passed away Sunday, October 27, 2019 at the Maple Lawn Manor Nursing Home in Hydro Oklahoma at the age of 89.  Robert graduated from Geary High School in 1948.  He was united in marriage to Kathleen Kappus, February 7, 1953, in El Reno Oklahoma.  They lived on the farm for 66 1/2 years.  Robert started a dairy and continued with the dairy farm until 1974.  After the dairy was sold, he and Kathleen continued ranching.  Robert loved riding and training horses.  He competed in many play days and timed events.  He was a member of the El Reno Wranglers and several other round up clubs.  Robert and Kathleen loved to square dance along with Don and Catherine Williams and square danced for 50 years.  He was a member of the First Mennonite Church in Geary, Oklahoma.  Robert was a first generation American born to parents who were German immigrants. Robert had over 25 cowboy poems memorized and loved to entertain people with his cowboy poetry. 

Robert is preceded in death by his parents Dietrich and Anna Leck,  siblings Augusta Armstrong and Frieda Boevers; three brothers Gerhardt, Richard, and Bill Leck, and two infant sisters.

Survivors include: his wife Kathleen Leck of the home Geary, OK; four daughters: Susan King of Kennesaw, GA, Barbara Birkholz and husband Jack of Amarillo, TX, Lois Wyrick and husband George of Edmond, OK, and Carol Sparby and husband Tracy of Tucson, AZ; six grandchildren: Eric Cowan and wife Karmen of Geary, OK, Adam Cowan and wife Sherry of Watonga, OK, Cristy Ainsworth and husband Brian of Amarillo, TX, Phillip Wyrick and wife Marissa of Houston, TX, Jordan Smith and husband Eric of Maywood, IL, and Madison Denney of Kennesaw, GA. 12 great-grandchildren; three sisters Margaret Stoner of Reno, NV, Pearl Craven of Blackwell OK, Mary Burkhead and husband Howard of Calumet OK; sister-in-law Nancy Leck of Geary, OK;  as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
 

Viewing will be at the Turner Funeral Home in Geary starting Wednesday, October 30, 2019 from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm daily; 

There will be a viewing where the family will receive friends Saturday from 9:30 am to 11:00 am at the First United Methodist Church in Geary, OK
