Raymond D. Wright was born November 10, 1940 in Wanette, OK to Clarence Melton and Lillian Catherine (Kimery) Wright. He passed away Friday, May 10, 2019 at his home in Watonga, OK at the age of 78. He started working at the grocery store in Geary when he was 12 years old. Raymond graduated from Geary High School. He served in the US National Guard serving three years in the National Guard and one-year active duty US Army. He married Greta Edsall June 8, 1963 at the First United Methodist Church in Watonga, OK. They met on a blind date, and Raymond said it was love at first sight. He owned and operated Wright Auto Sales in Watonga and later worked for Dobrinski Chevrolet in Kingfisher for a total of over 50 years. Raymond enjoyed fishing, hunting, going to the lake, painting and sketching, and cooking, especially desserts from scratch. He loved to tell jokes. He loved anything with cars, watching car shows, loved to restore cars and then sell them; his favorite car was a 1957 Ford. He also liked watching home improvements on TV; he could teach himself to do just about anything. Raymond was a member of the Lions Club, Round Up Club, President of Jay Cees, a member of the First United Methodist Church in Watonga, OK. He coached his daughter’s soccer team, “The Flames”, along with Dale Swann, and only won 1 game by forfeit. He loved his family very much. His grandkids called him PaPa. He also loved spending his holidays with the family; and would always give a little extra to his kids and grandkids on holidays.
Survivors include: his wife Greta Wright of the home Watonga, OK, his children, Randy Wright and wife Jennifer of Guthrie, OK, and Kerri Coffey and husband Shane of Bixby, OK; his grandchildren, Jarod, Jaeden, and Jaxon Wright, and Hayden and Emersyn Coffey; siblings, G.L. Wright and wife Pat of Geary, Jerry Wright and wife Judy of El Reno, Tommy Wright and wife Mary Kay of Geary, Bobby Wright and wife Matta of Weatherford, Patricia Thompson and husband Billy of Longdale, OK, and Linda Payne and husband Alan of Lake City, CO; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Clarence and Lillian Wright, his sister, Cathy Thomas, his brothers: Sonny Wright and Donald Wright.
