Norma Dean Sykes Carrick was born on December 23, 1930 in Briartown, OK to James Arthur and Nola Fay Hicks. She passed away on May 19, 2019 in Elk City, OK at the age of 88. Norma married James E. Sykes on June 10, 1944 in Stigler, OK. They had 3 sons, James, Harvey, and Ron, and a daughter, Norma Jean Sykes. She worked as a clerk at the IGA Grocery Store in Geary, Geary Nursing Home for many years, and Carrick Sporting Goods. James preceded her in death on November 2, 1971. She later married Benson Carrick on August 14, 1982 in Geary, OK, and he preceded her in death on May 8, 1997. Norma enjoyed crafts; making teddy bears, dolls, sewing Barbie clothes for her granddaughters, and she loved flowers. Norma was steadfast in her faith in God. She attended the Assembly of God Church in Geary, and the First Baptist Church in Geary.
Survivors include: her son, Ron Sykes of Elk City, OK, her grandchildren, Candace Barthell of Yukon, OK, and Laci Brewer and husband Chris of Clinton, OK, her great grandchildren, Paisley, Emmah, and Jossalyn Lonebear of Yukon, OK, and Dakota and Blake Brewer of Clinton, OK, her brothers, Tommy Hicks and wife Bonnie and family of Geary, OK, and James Hicks and wife Joyce and family of Geary, OK, as well as many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Nola Hicks, husbands, James E. Sykes, and Benson Carrick, her sons, James T Sykes, and Harvey J. Sykes, her daughter, Norma Jean Sykes, and her granddaughter, Shanna Leigh Sykes.
