Elmer Constien Obituary

Elmer Hugo Constien was born March 11, 1933 in Hinton Oklahoma to Helene and Wilhelm Constien and was the eighth of nine children.  He graduated from Hinton High School, served in the Army, and graduated from Oklahoma State University. He married the love of his life Marilyn Roether of Watonga Oklahoma on August 10, 1958 in Midwest City, OK.  They lived in Stillwater OK, Bethany OK, Hazel Dell WA, and Rockwall TX.  He went home to his Lord on June 28.  He is survived by his brother Harold, his wife Marilyn, his three sons and their wives: Greg, Mark, Kathryn, Scott and Maury, and five grandchildren: Cole, Carter, Kevin, Rachel, and Daniel.

After college, Elmer joined Western Electric / AT&T where he worked as an Industrial Engineer for thirty years until he retired in 1989.  He remained connected with his coworkers from AT&T, meeting weekly over the years for breakfast and coffee, or just to catch up.  In retirement he enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, time with his grand kids, and experiencing the world with the people closest to him. Hinton was always home, and he continued to return to the family farm to make new memories with loved ones and enjoy countless hours on his tractor “Blue”.

Growing up in a large family within the small farming community of Hinton, Elmer had a strong sense of belonging and community, he never met a stranger.  He had a genuine gift of connecting and relating to people he had just met.  His boys often joked that when he wasn’t with his friends, he was off making new ones.

Elmer lived a life of service.  He served his country in the army.  He served his community of Hazel Dell by developing the small Little League Baseball program into a thriving organization. He served as a loving, devoted husband and a strong, caring father and grandfather. He served his church and the Lord in several organizational positions; church building committee chair, congregational president, trustee, and elder.  He was a good and faithful servant, and dearly loved.
