Carolyn Opitz Obituary

Carolyn Sue Opitz was born on August 6, 1940 in Cardin, Oklahoma.  She passed away on November 9, 2019 at her home in Hinton, Oklahoma.  She attended school at Sickles, Ok.  She was married to Edwin R. Opitz and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hinton, Ok.  Edwin and Carolyn Sue raised their children on the family farm southeast of Hinton.  She loved unconditionally her family, friends, strangers, and even animals.  She was a compassionate, selfless person.  Her family was her passion.  She was truly blessed, as well as, given grace by her Lord and Savior.

She was a devoted and loving wife to Edwin.  She was always by his side helping him on the farm.  She was a hard worker, and there wasn’t much she could not do.  She enjoyed gardening, canning, cooking, tending to her many flower beds and fruit trees, and sewing.  She often made Easter dresses for Jahree, Kayla, and Candy.  She also loved fishing when they had a chance to sneak off.

She always had her door open to her family and neighbors.  Her house was the gathering place many times for dinner.  She never hesitated to feed whoever Edwin invited over to eat.  She absolutely loved having everyone over for holidays and went above and beyond at Christmas time with cooking, decorating, buying gifts, and stuffing stockings.

Her and Edwin enjoyed many years of playing and hosting rook parties.  They played until the Alzheimer’s wouldn’t allow her to do it anymore.  They passed on their love for the game to their kids and grandkids.  And at every gathering you know a rook game is sure to break out.

Survivors include:  Her husband Edwin R. Opitz of the home, 3 children:  Calvin Opitz and wife Leslie.  Alesia Belter and husband Mike.  Deanna Barger and husband Wayne.

Grandchildren:  Trenton, Danny, and Nathan Opitz. Cory Belter, Justin and Jessy Barger, Erick and Tyler Winegart, Jahree Edwards, Kayla Anderson, and Candace Smith.  Numerous great grandchildren.  Her brother Danny Graham and sisters, Sharon Atchley and Phyllis Self, along with several nieces and nephews.

Carolyn Sue was preceded in death by her grandmother Ethel Stephenson, her mother Alice Graham, her son Robert Dean Opitz, daughter in law Shari Opitz, and brothers Anthony and Raymond Graham.
