Betty Garvin Obituary

Betty Sue Garvin was born on February 7, 1939 in Muldrow, OK to Buster O. and Minnie Mae (Hutchins) Huggins. She passed away Thursday, June 13, 2019 at the Integris Hospice House in Oklahoma City, OK at the age of 80. Betty was saved and baptized at Geary First Baptist Church at the age of 17.  She graduated from Geary High School. Betty married Melvin Garvin on October 18, 1958 in Medford, OK. They lived in Medford for a few years, moved to Oklahoma City, then moved to Hinton. They worked at Vaughn’s Department Store before purchasing Garvin’s Department Store which they owned and operated for many years.  Betty owned and operated Meme’s Attic. Betty enjoyed painting, puzzles, ceramics, sewing (she made the girls’ dresses and costumes for the spring festival), loved cooking and baking, and decorating her house, working in her flowerbeds, loved collecting figurines and dolls, loved shopping adventures with her family, and loved playing the piano. Betty also loved playing games with her grandkids and attending her grandkids sporting events. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Hinton, where she taught Sunday school, kept nursery, and helped serve dinner to the youth.  In later years she loved getting visits calls and cards from all her friends.   

 

 

Survivors include: her husband, Melvin Garvin of Hinton, OK, her children, Tammy Earles and husband Rocky  and Katrina Thiel and husband Rick all of Hinton, OK; her grandchildren, Suzanne Mayo and husband Cody of Moore, OK, Rachell Kennedy and husband Brian of El Reno, OK, Tanner Blagg and wife Abby of El Reno, OK, Ragan Earles, Zach Theil and wife Erica, Brooke Stiner and husband Joe, Jordan McSperitt, and Russell Thiel all of Hinton; great grandchildren, Taylor, Ryen, Payton, Addison, Colsen, Nash, Revy, Lucy, Olivia, Rowan, Tinsley, and Rossi; and two sisters, Bertia Johnson of Huntsville, Alabama, and Charlene Wright of Geary; and many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Buster and Minnie Huggins, son-in-law, Bill Blagg, and two brothers-in-law, Gerry Johnson and Donnie Wright.

 

Viewing for Betty will be Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 9:00 am- 9:00 pm.

 

 

Services: First Baptist Church, Friday, 10:00 am, June 21, 2019, Hinton, OK

Officiating: Rev. Keith Gillham and Rev. Earl Skaggs
