In the fall of 1947, Polly enrolled in college at Southwestern Institute of Technology, now Southwestern State College, in Weatherford, OK where she graduated in 1950 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. In 1952, Polly married Hoyt Benedict who was then in the US Army stationed at Camp Hanford in Richland, Washington.  After Hoyt was discharged from the service in 1953, they returned to Jackson County with a baby daughter, Lori Suzann.  Their son, Larry Hoyt, was born in 1956. Polly was a member of the First Baptist Church in Altus, OK, a member of the FBC Elizabeth Hospitality Sunday School Class, a volunteer at the FBC Library, for over twenty years, a member of the FBC Intercessory Prayer Ministry, and served as a hostess helping the FBC for many years.
